Worked example: a bakery yardTask 3

Delivery drivers reverse into the bakery’s loading bays at 5am, while bakers cross the yard to the bin store. The yard light has been out for a week. Two near misses are written in the diary, but nobody has followed them up.

Based on the scenario only, comment on how well the risks from vehicles in the yard are being managed.(6)

4 / 6
  1. Drivers reverse into the bays while bakers cross the yard, so people and vehicles share one route with nothing between them.Uses the scenario
  2. At 5am, with the yard light out for a week, a reversing driver is unlikely to see anyone behind the van.Links light to time
  3. The two near misses were written down but never followed up, so the warnings were not acted on.Interprets, not copies
  4. Recording near misses at all is the one thing working, and gives the owner something to act on.Credit for what works

Written for the 2026 syllabus · Marks our scenarios only · Never writes your answer

Using AI or anyone else’s help during the real assessment is malpractice. NEBOSH voids those papers and can ban learners. Marked Mock marks our own practice scenarios only, and never writes your answer.

How it works

  1. 1

    Answer a practice scenario

Pick one of three original scenarios in the shape of the GNC1 paper and answer as many of its five tasks as you like. Your answers are saved on your device as you type.

  2. 2

    Get it marked instantly

Each task is marked against its marking guide: the points a full answer makes, the scenario facts it uses and what the question asks for.

  3. 3

    Read your feedback

For every task: what you covered, in your own words, what a full answer also covers, the mark range, and three things to do next time. Then the likely band for the whole scenario.

Questions

Is there a tool that marks my NEBOSH practice answer?

Marked Mock marks practice answers for the NEBOSH General Certificate open-book exam (GNC1 and GIC1). You answer one of our own scenarios, task by task, and get each task marked against the marking approach: which points you made, which scenario facts you used, whether you did what the command word asks, and a likely band. It is not affiliated with NEBOSH.

Will it write or improve my answer?

No. It never writes, rewrites or suggests wording. It tells you what your answer did and did not cover, in our words. Using AI or anyone else’s help in the real assessment is malpractice, and NEBOSH voids those papers.

Can I paste in my real exam paper?

No. Marked Mock marks our own practice scenarios only. There is no box for a question or a scenario, so it cannot mark the real paper.

How is my answer marked?

Each task has a marking guide written by us from NEBOSH’s published syllabus, sample paper and learner guidance: the points a full answer makes, the scenario facts a good answer uses, and what the command word asks for. An AI model (Anthropic’s Claude) compares your answer with the guide, quoting your own words. The band for the whole scenario is worked out from the marks, using the pass, credit and distinction marks of 45, 65 and 75 percent.

Are three practice scenarios enough?

Between them the three scenarios cover every element of the GNC1 syllabus (elements 1 to 4: why manage health and safety, management systems, managing risk and people, and monitoring and measuring), so working through all three practises everything the open-book exam can ask. Each is half the length of the real paper, in the shape of NEBOSH’s sample.

How much does it cost?

Nothing while in beta: each of the three scenarios once per email address. No account and no card.

What happens to my answers?

They are sent to a model host that keeps nothing once the marking is done, and we keep them, encrypted, for 90 days after your feedback is sent, then delete them. Nobody else sees them.
